Anne Ingram, The Full Story

Description

Location: I live on the beautiful Kapiti Coast but work with authors across the country

I specialise in fiction for 8-15 year olds and offer full assessment of manuscripts for this age group. I also offer developmental editing, line editing and proofreading. It gives me enormous satisfaction to help other writers tell their story.

The genres I specialise in are: junior fiction, middle fiction, and young YA fiction, although I also work with picture book texts.

About me: My life and passions have all been about books and writing and reading. I've worked as a librarian, English, teacher, journalist, and even had my own children's bookstore. For eight years I was a publisher's editor and ever since then have worked as a freelance editor.

Some of my books have been commercially published: Sea Robbers (Mallinson Rendel); Golden Legends of Korea, Golden Legends of the Philippines, Golden Legends of Vietnam (all published by Heinemann Asia); The Land of the Morning Calm & other Stories, Why Ducks Sleep on One Leg & other Stories. The Gift of the Gods & Other Stories (all by Heinemann); Bonjour Lucy Bee (One Tree House). My self-published books are: Lucy Bee & the Secret Gene and Lucy Bee & Soline (published under the White Gull Press imprint). I've also edited and published three collections of stories for our local Kapiti Writers' Group: Shortz. Flying High, and Out of this World.

TESTIMONIALS

Hello, my name is Hazel, and I was an author in the 2023 young writers' fantasy workshop that Anne was editor for. Shortly after I had submitted my story to Anne, she came back with some invaluable ideas that my story wouldn't be the same without. At first, I thought my story was fine as it was and that I didn't need to change anything. So, I was a bit reluctant to start adjusting it, but once I began to tweak the details that Anne said would enhance it, my story really started to take shape. I really enjoyed working with Anne and if I ever get the chance to work with her again I wouldn't hesitate to take her advice. Her guidance was amazing, and she is such a great editor. She gave really clear instructions that made my job a lot easier as I knew exactly what to do thanks to her detailed instructions.  Hazel Ross

During 2024 I engaged Anne Ingram to give guidance in helping me put a children's story into print. I had lost my son when he was in college in 2008 and was clearing out a lot of stuff when I came across a four-sentence story he had written when aged five years old at primary school. I thought the concept of the story so clever that I decided to have it made into a children's book. This was a deeply personal project. I was put in touch with Anne for help. Anne helped me draft the original story into a full length picture book text. When completed, she advised me how the book would be best laid out along with the illustrations I had had done. 'The title of the book was 'the Lucky Feather' and I had it printed into a wonderful tribute and memory for my son. Anne was exceptionally skilled in the advice she provided and was able to tune into the sensitivity of the project. She was very accommodating and pleasant to work with. The end product was truly wonderful.  Brian Hookway

Anne helped me with good suggestions and options for editing my story. I liked the suggestions she made and used them to make what happened in my story clearer. I liked the process we went through and I liked the way my story turned out.   Kiran Pulford (student)
