Book coaching for non-fiction writers writing towards meaningful change
I work with experts, coaches and founders who want to play a part in working towards meaningful change. I help them channel their ideas, stories and passion into compelling books that can shift perspectives, illuminate fresh ideas and inspire action.
How I can help
– Untangle your book. You’ve got a lot of words and ideas floating around. Let’s get clear on what you’re really trying to say and find the core idea at the heart of your book – one that will anchor the next chapter of your career.
– Plan your book. We’ll find your hook, sort your ideas and plan your content from start to finish, so you know exactly where you’re heading and can write forward with confidence.
– Write your manuscript. Regular 1:1 feedback and accountability, or group calls and check-ins if you’d like the support of other writers.
– Find your publishing pathway. Whether you’re writing a proposal for a traditional publisher or exploring self-publishing, I’ll help you work out the right next step.
About me
With a background that spans media law, policy and communications, I’m at home with complex, high-stakes material. I have a knack for finding the throughline and the stories that will shift hearts and minds. I’m the co-author of a non-fiction book published by Allen & Unwin and have contributed to several more as lead writer or ghostwriter.
I’m a non-fiction book coach, trained and certified by Author Accelerator in non-fiction (2023) and memoir (2024). My recent postgraduate study in Leading Change for Good with Academy Ex (2026) deepened my understanding of how systemic change happens, and reinforced how much one clear, courageous voice can matter.
I’ve coached authors writing books on leadership, psychology, recruitment, business, parenting, leadership, faith, te ao Māori, education, personal development and career development, as well as memoir. You can see books I’ve worked on here, with many more in development.
What a book can do for your work or business
When I catch up with clients months or years after publication, they often describe their book as a gift that kept on giving, leading to speaking gigs, workshops, new coaching clients, podcast interviews, and a stronger sense of who they are professionally. One client’s book idea grew into a full rebrand and an award-winning workshop series; another launched her speaking career. It all starts with getting the book right: clear, distinctive and unmistakably yours.

WHAT MY CLIENTS SAY
‘When I was offered a book contract, I asked several authors I admire for their #1 piece of advice. Every single author said “Get as much editorial help as you possibly can. Take what the publisher gives you and hire more. It will be the difference between writing a great book and writing a remarkable book. So I hired Christine Sheehy as my book coach and my word, she blew my socks off. She gave amazing, constructive, thoughtful, easy-to-hear advice….The difference her coaching is making is remarkable. Without her, I’m sure the book would take me 4 x as long to write and end up half as good. I highly recommend working with Christine.’
Emma Wright, author of Body Confident (Harper Collins, 2024)
‘Christine guided me through the entire journey – from the initial spark of an idea right through to delivering the final manuscript to Bateman Books… She taught me fundamental writing techniques, helped me find clarity in my message, and kept the project moving forward when I might have given up. I don’t think I could have written this book without her. I’ve since recommended Christine to other authors seeking editorial support, and I recommend her to you without hesitation.’
Tracy Manu, Author, Hononga (Bateman Books, 2025)
