Who’s behind the New Zealand Indie Publishing Directory?
The New Zealand Indie Publishing Directory is created and run by Relish Books’ director Kate Gordon-Smith, an indie published author of junior fiction and founder/owner of the Kiwi Kids’ Bookstore which showcases books by New Zealand authors for children and teens.
How do I contribute articles and case studies for the self-publishing advice blog?
These articles offer you an opportunity to showcase your services and how you’ve been able to help New Zealand authors on their self-publishing journey. You’re welcome to repurpose other articles you’ve written for your newsletter or other outlets.
Contact Kate to discuss any ideas you have for articles, ‘how to’ tips or case studies for the blog section.
What does it cost?
Each listing costs $15 + GST for 2025. You can also select several service categories and write a listing description that covers all your services.
Each listing is valid for one year and you will be invited to renew your listing 28 days before it expires.
Future pricing is yet to be determined, but likely to be around $20/year + GST.
If you provide several services to self-published authors, you may wish to create a listing for each service so the description can be specific to that service.
How do authors contact me?
Your listing page offers prospective author clients an email form via which they can send you a message. Then it’s over to you to communicate with the prospective author client directly.
Signing up as a service provider
- Head here to sign up as a service provider.
- Once you’ve signed up and used those login details to sign-in (you don’t need to wait for your sign-up to be approved), you’ll see the service provider dashboard page.
- The first option is to create your service provider profile. Upload an image to appear as your profile picture. Ideally a square image, around 200kb. Please use the email address that you want authors to use if they contact you. You can enter your website and social media links here or on your main listing.
- Then click ‘submit a listing’ and continue as per notes below.
(Please note, at this stage, I haven’t worked out the right link access the edit function for these profiles, so let me know if you need to change any contact details.)
How to complete your listing
- Service provider name – this is your business or contact name with job title, i.e. Kate Gordon-Smith, Book Publicist.
- Category – a compulsory field. This is the broad category of the services you provide. You can select as many categories as you wish, and add your own if your service isn’t in the pre-populated list. Type your own category and hit enter to save. (Note, we reserve the right to consolidate user-added categories where needed).
Also note, you may wish to create a second listing if you offer more than one service that needs its own description. - Location – choose your region in NZ if you wish. (Note, these appear correctly in the list view of ‘all listings’ but not in the grid view, hence my suggestion in the following point about location.
- Description – describe the services you offer self-published authors. Include brief author testimonials if you wish (or you can add these as “reviews” once your listing is published).
Please start your description with your location/region and indicate if you work with authors outside New Zealand as well, i.e. “Location: Central Otago, but working with authors across Aotearoa and the world”.
Suggest you also include a brief bio about your experience to finish your listing description. - Listing type – select “featured”. This ensures you receive the correct pricing and payment information.
- Genre – it’s optional to select as many of the pre-populated genre options that you typically work with, or add your own by typing the genre, then hitting enter to save. (Note, we reserve the right to consolidate user-added genres where we think that’s more helpful for prospective author clients).
- Email – enter the email address where you want prospective author clients to use to contact you.
- Phone – optional.
- Website and social media links – all optional.
- Images – two images maximum. The first image you upload will be your listing’s main image on the “all listings” directory page. The recommended dimensions are 300 px x 200px. Let Kate know if you can’t resize your logo or image and she’ll do it for you.
Other notes:
- Once created, your listing needs to be approved before going live in the directory. This can take 24-48 hours.
- Once your listing is published, you can share reviews on your own listing with genuine customer testimonials. You can also invite your previous clients to share their reviews on your listing.
Any questions, please ask!
